As my mother says, “Uno se aprovecha de el tiempo. Pero el tiempo se acaba.” One takes time for granted, and time goes by fast.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the feel of life, or our ambition has us preparing for the future. While it is wonderful to be prepared, we also need to be in the moment. Sometimes you don’t take advantage of the present when you live in the future.
I went to breakfast with my dad a few days ago. I didn’t eat anything because I was rushing to get home. We talked for a bit, and then my dad’s phone rang. He didn’t answer and I asked him why. He said because he was present there with me. “It is a privilege to have breakfast at a restaurant together,” he said. In my mind, I was thinking about what I would do when I got home when I really should’ve been focused on the conversation and been present at the moment.
Today, I challenge you to take some time to spend with someone you care about. Whether it’s a 5-minute coffee meetup or an hour-long hangout, be present and enjoy the now. Each day will have its own worries. Enjoy your life today. Make good choices. life is a blessing, but it is not everlasting. Live life as if it is your last day because you really never know. Spend time with the people and animals you love. Every day is not promised.
